I arrived in NY not yet a week ago and so far so good. I have had the best luck. I found a place to stay in just 2 days, I've possibly got some assisting work with a very successful and well known photographer. I wont say who the photographer is just yet until it is all 100% locked in. But the fact that I was able to have a couple of minutes of their time and get all their contacts details indicate to me that they were being genuine in what they said.
But I'm really, REALLY keeping my fingers crossed for this. Even if I got to assist on one shoot I honestly reckon my life (well my photographic life) would be complete. I'm trying not to get my hopes up though, just incase this doesn't pan out.

Meanwhile, parts of NY are very photogenic. This shot was taken out of the window of a cab. We were stuck in a jam over Manhattan bridge.
Its a gritty city. But it sure does photograph well.
I'm still in the explorer stage. Things are new and different to me. I find it hard to take pictures during this stage because I'm not really thinking properly. I just point and shoot. After that initial period then I start to think and make proper decisions about my composition and the time of day ect...
I have no idea who, if anyone, even reads this. However I will post again as soon as I have some news about this assisting gig. If you are reading this, please keep thinking positive thoughts! I cannot begin to tell you just how much this would mean to me.
